Turmeric Ginger Lemonade

Turmeric Ginger Lemonade

Power up with this delicious and refreshing beverage that is also an excellent natural anti-inflammatory.   Who wouldn’t want to quench your thirst with this gorgeous drink or maybe add a little vodka for a great cocktail.

2 inches fresh turmeric, grated

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and grated

2-3 cups water to boil, more for lemonade

1/2 cup sugar or to taste.  Feel free to use another sweetener like agave or stevia

5 lemons, juiced (zest first to make Citrus Sugar or Lemon Rosemary Rub)

Boil turmeric and ginger in 2-3 cups of water for 15 minutes remove from heat and let cool.  While spices cool place sugar and lemon juice in pitcher.  Strain turmeric and ginger solids for compost and add orange liquid to pitcher mixing thoroughly (careful with the turmeric as it stains very easily).   Add an additional 4 cups of water and cool in refrigerator.  This tastes quite different once cooled and flavors have melded.  Now is the time to taste test and see if it needs to be thinned out a bit with more water or you’d like it a little sweeter.  Each turmeric and ginger root is a bit different so you may find each batch to be stronger or weaker than the next.  Trust your taste buds and make it your own!
